The African Consciousness Institute is the brainchild of Professor Shadrick Mazaza, a renowned physician, philosopher and academic. Prof. Mazaza has been a Faculty member of the prestigious Graduate School of Business (GSB) of the University of Cape Town (UCT), in Cape Town, South Africa, for over a decade. He is Honorary Associate Professor, Division of Family Medicine, School of Public Health and Family Medicine. His academic focus is personal transformation and authentic leadership. Prof. Mazaza has spearheaded a shift to prioritise personal transformation as a foundation for all the GSB’s academic programmes, to produce conscious and ethical business leaders with increased understanding of themselves and the world. In 2012, Prof. Mazaza conceptualized the idea of an institute dedicated to developing African mindsets and preparing them for the task of co-creating a new Africa. His vision was strengthened by the 2013 announcement of the African Union’s “Agenda 2063” by then Chairperson of the African Union, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma.
